Piracy

The seas of Belios are already a treacherous place without the addition of Pirates, but alas, they have to eat too, or so they would say. Piracy is a rampant problem in the many seas of Belios, but they tend to hover on the outskirt of the major trade routes and pick off vessels they know aren't carrying a Windcaller. While the presence of The Windcallers Guild of Ceros on a vessel might deter piracy, it isn't going to completely eliminate them from the plate of delectable ships to pick from. Even still, pirates are much more likely to think that the ship isn't worth the trouble. After all, a Windcaller will capsize both ships before they allow themselves to be taken.
Pirates generally speaking only wish to get what they want and go. While they aren't adverse to scuttling a ship now and again, they find it is much better to collect money and goods from the ships and set them free. After all, if they killed all the sailors and sunk their ships, who would they steal from in the future? As such, it is generally custom to forgo the sea battle and offer the ship they plan on assaulting upfront to simply hand over their payload before things progress to more forceful methods.

Career

Qualifications

Pirate crews do not tend to be very high in the standards requirements. They will take anyone that can pull their own weight. Most Pirates lack formal education and many are simply outcasts with no where else to go.

Payment & Reimbursement

Pirates always receive a cut of the take. Some of that cut goes back into the pot for supplies, but otherwise that treasure is theirs for the keeping. A good pirate ship has a method in place for divvying up the treasure. Some are more fair than others.

Other Benefits

There is quite a bit of infamy associated with the greater pirates in the seas. Their flags incite panic and fear from even the most stalwart sailors. Being infamous has its perks. While they also tend to be wanted in most major ports, they are also highly respected among their peers.
