Lule Honeybee

Without Lule Honeybees there would be no Lule Honey and no Honey Cake Festival. To say that the bees are revered would be an understatement. These harmless creatures are tended to and doted over by the entire community. These honeybees are farmed and tended by the town of Lule with strict instruction and training.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Lule Honeybee has a fluffy appearance. They are large bees with large green eyes, furry black and gold striped abdomens, and dark black thoraxes. They have two pairs of wings, a forewing and a hind wing for each side of their body. These wings are iridescent in color. Unlike other types of bees, over time Lule Honeybees have evolved to be stingerless. Without tabaxi cultivation, these bees would be mostly defenseless. They do have small mandibles and have been known to bite, if very rarely.

Growth Rate & Stages

Lule Honeybees have a four stage life cycle: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The total development time through the stages is dependent upon the classification of bee. Queen bees progress through life stages as the fastest rate; taking 20 days for her to reach maturity. Worker bees are the next quickest at 24 days, while drones take 28 days to reach full maturity. Eggs can be identified by their rice like shape and will each be deposited in their own individual cup. The Larva of the honeybee is iridescent green and they spin a white cocoon around them where they enter their pupa state and start developing into an adult bee.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Lule Honeybee is capable of perceiving ley energies. They prefer to build their hives on the edges of leylines to cultivate the pollen of flowers saturated with ley energy. As such, they are capable of sensing leylines and ley line magics.
Scientific Name
Apis Dorsata Lulia
Conservation Status
Lule has a number of laws in place to conserve their natural honeybee population. Destruction of honeybee hive structure is punishable by dismemberment and banishment.

Hanging Hives

The hanging hives of the Lule Honeybee are harvested by expert climbers. These tabaxi train from a young age to scale the outcroppings of Humming Ridge and must move upside down horizontally across the outcropping to reach the hives, where they must harvest the honey and abandoned combs inside.
