To consider Belios without Arcane Dust would be to imagine the world without any of its magical advances. It is critical for the creation and the maintenance of magical items used in many societies. All creation of magic items boils down to Arcane Dust and it is simply not something that is easily maintained. Currency is generally based on an Arcane Dust standard and trading in magical items is the best way to do business.

"This is it?" Alexi ducked his head to peer at the weird, sticky looking grey dust. "We are stealing.. this?" The rogue wrinkled his nose, looking at the bit of, what he would have thought was nothing, for a long moment.

"That's worth 400 crowns, just that bit.. so yeah. Let's get it and get out." His 'friend' quipped as the man started to disarm the pressure plate holding the weird looking ash. "'sides, It looks a lot better in the light." Gremil held his glow rod up and the entire picture changed. That weird, sticky ash was suddenly illuminated with millions of colors. It was breathtaking and it took far longer than he would have liked to admit for Alexi to recover.

Silver-grey and having a clinging sort of sticky quality, Arcane Dust tends to be passed over easily by the average person. It isn't until the dust is seen in magical light that it really comes to life. It is said that Arcane Dust swirls with millions of colors in all shades and intensities.

Geology & Geography

Arcane Dust can be mined at intersections of powerful leylines. Greater leylines might not denote mine-able Arcane Dust. It tends to be related to the stability of the lines themselves. The more stable the leyline the less likely arcane dust is to be found at those junctures. It can also be reclaimed from breaking down magical items, but the process is time consuming and generally gives much less Dust than it took to make the item to begin with.

The magical potency of Arcane Dust deteriorates the longer it is away from leylines. If stored near leylines then the potency is indefinite, otherwise, it halves in potency approximately every ten days.
