  Millions of years ago

  Modern society is a few hundred of years old. Imagine established cultures and civilizations that had thousands of years to develop. In the span of one million years hundreds of modern cultures could rise and fall easily.  In this world, we are going to take a mere sliver of the ancient world - a million years - and develop an intricate fantasy world that was teeming with alternative life. Humanity was a minor species among many. Even the most advanced of cultures would be hard to unearth /discover 50 million years later.   So lets check out this world from 50 million years ago when the dinosaur dominance has been largely stamped into extinction through a catastrophic meteor, 15 million years earlier and the earth has been recovering in great leaps and bounds.  New races emerge either from other planets, realms of existence or from the depths or the earth and seas. You can do a lot in a million years. By our time scale, our civilization is in its infancy at a few thousand years old.
