The Rotten Shanty

Down Down Down We Go
With The Ebb And With The Flow
Fighting All Against The Tide
As The Ocean Eats The Light

Now Up Up Up We Come
With The Ship And The Setting Sun
Ravaging All That We Once Knew
We Are Coming Back For You

Summary

The Rotten Shanty is a popular children's song commonly song by kids living in fishing villages and harbour towns. While singing the children will stand in a circle and act to the lyrics. During the first verse the kids all pinch their noses with one hand and raise their other arm into the sky, making a waving motion with their body and slowly making themselves as small as possible. Then when the second verse starts the kids will raise both arms and make a waving motion as they slowly grow big again. Then once all the kids are standing tall again they lower their arms and stretch them straight in front of them. The kids will then turn 180 degrees and walking around and once the song end they will run around with their arms like this repeating the last line.

Historical Basis

Historians believe that the Rotten Shanty might be based on the zombie pirate attack on Wickerhaven of 1478 or one of the other related zombie pirate attack. 50 years earlier a ship named the HMS Orchidee departed from Wickerhaven on a mission to hunt down nearby pirates. But the ship was lost in a storm before it could make it back to port. Then in 1478 a necromancer discovered the location of the shipwreck and raised the ship and its crew to serve him in undead. With his new zombie crew the necromancer attacked Wickerhaven, killed most of its inhabitants, and took all the loot his servants could find before sailing out again. The HMS Orchidee and its crew repeat these attacks every few years, raiding seemingly random towns along the coast, killing the inhabitants and taking everything they can carry.
