Atalantan Horse Kebab

The Atalantans go through life with pragmatism and detachment alien to most people. And nowhere is that more clear than with the famous Atalantan Horse Kebab.

Execution

When a loyal Atalantan steed passes away from old age, it is not buried like in most cultures. Rather than wasting such a perfectly good source of meat the Atalantans butcher the deceased horse's carcass and ground up the meat. This grounded up meat is pushed unto a spit which is then rotated above an low flame with a bowl under it. The bowl is filled with wild vegetables such as spinach, roots, nuts, garlic, or onions. While one person turns the meat another shaves off small slices of meat from the outside of the grounded meat and let it drop into the bowl. Meanwhile any fat dropping of the meat falls into the bowl, helping the vegetables cook and giving them a distinct flavour. When the bowl is filled up it is removed from the fire and passed on from person to person around the fire. Each person picks a few pieces of horse kebab and some vegetables from bowl before passing it on to the next. While eating the rest of the meat is continuously being rotated, being prepared for the next round. When it is the rotator's turn to eat the person who ate first from the bowl will take his turn, ensuring that everyone puts in the effort.   On special occasions such as during a feast or wedding the meat is instead served on large flat plates of bread. This plate of bread is covered in olive oil and salt before adding the meat, vegetables, and fat. When served it is cut into thin triangular slices and placed on a table for guests to grab.
