Volskree

He.. it.. it came out of nowhere and just grabbed my wee one and carried her off! Wings big as I am, and its face... I don't know what dared attack it, but I could barely make out any features. Last I saw my sweet thing, she was screaming in terror as that thing held her in its nasty claws as it flew south.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Volskree are bipedal, with the same basic body type as a human. However, their hands and feet are both clawed, and they have nasty, sharp canines meant for tearing flesh. On their backs are large leathery wings that resemble those of a large bat. They have no hair, and their skin is deeply tanned with the look and feel of tanned leather. Their faces are all marked by what look like gaping wounds, the pattern and number of which varies per individual.

Biological Traits

These creatures are also known to regenerate even from death, not even fire permanently destroying them. Whatever vile process was responsible for their creation, it resulted in creatures so powerful that the only thing that can possibly destroy them is turning their own special swords upon them.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Volskree do not reproduce. They are all anatomically male, and have no innate desire to breed. On the rare occasion that one is killed, the others gather to perform a ritual that creates another to replace it. Any created will thenceforth have the same memories and knowledge as the others since they share a hive mind.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Volskree eat only flesh, and although they can subsist on any flesh, that of demi-humans and humanoids is more palatable and nutritious to them. They must eat at least three times more of other flesh in order to remain healthy. Only desperation will push them to feast on "lesser" flesh. They also prefer the flesh of the young, although that's simply preference over necessity.

Social Structure

The Volskree have a strict hierarchy. Only twenty-seven of the creatures exist, and the lesser twenty-six answer to the oldest and most powerful of their kind. They have a hive mind, and when called to rare meetings, they all converge upon the location of the elder Volskree.

Facial characteristics

Each Volskree has a unique pattern of what appear to be gaping wounds on its face. The number, type, and positioning of these scars differs from creature to creature. The skin of the face is as leathery as the rest of the creature's body, giving it a tough, gritty appearance. Their eyes are a sickly yellow with no pupils whatsoever.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Volskree can easily live in any sort of climate or terrain, and the preferences vary between them. All make their lairs either underground or in deep caves, however, as this is necessary for purposes of hibernation.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Volskree have darkvision, and their vision is as keen as that of an eagle.
