Quinnial
"... few species have names beginning with a 'Q'! So it is with some sadness that I come to the Quinnial. A now extinct species of Equine. As befits a race of creatures that has become legendary, it arises from an even more interesting myth: the Bonicorn.
The Bonicorn, of course did not spring from out of nowhere! It arose from the basal form of Ipotane, a much more common mythological thing, a being that was half man/half horse. There were varieties of this amalgamation; lower half horse, upper half human or lower half horse, ears, tail and mane all horse, otherwise human and so on. It can be reasoned that the Bonicorn, came from a line of Ipotane that had the head of a horse and the body of a human."

Basic Information
Anatomy
Bipedal, equine-based evolutionary form. Heavily muscled. Fur is fine over much of the body but is distinct. Serves to keep the subject insulated from mild temperature fluctuations. Notable cranial development to the point of deformity. Large jaws contain teeth moderated from basal form but still well able to deal with tough vegetative matter.
From the parent Bonicorn species, there is noteworthy strength, speed and stamina.
Genetics and Reproduction
Unknown. It may be that it is sterile as other more unusual offshoots of the Equine species are.
Ecology and Habitats
"It is conjectured that the Bonicorn must have be born of Shadowstuff. Nowhere was this material more commonly found than the world of Axildusk, before the cataclysm. At that formative, mythological period in time, the constellations were expansive; much more so than today. This allowed for larger worlds and a great many more oddities of planetary evolution. -- of chief concern is the world of perpetual twilight, Dimontide. This world, long since lost in the nebulosity of Rigel, was a flattened ovoid, resulting in combination with its synchronous orbit with its star, in a landscape that was always on the verge of night descending but never quite arriving. Here then, was a planet of shadows both long and long-lasting! That the Quinnial would evolve from their Bonicorn ancestors and be one with Shadows, is a most certain likelihood."
Dietary Needs and Habits
Appears to be a herbivore.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
From the environment this specimen formed in, the dark-sight seems to have developed. Unusually for the parent species, this specimen reveals a capability to grow a horn. This protuberance appears at the will of the subject. evidence points to its ability to cause this horn to be emitted as a projectile to defend itself. Likely an outgrowth of the need in its early developmental evolution to deal with a difficult set of predators. This may explain the subject's attachment to shadows. Well beyond the typical use of shadows to hide within, this individual has some control over the Shadowstuff, as a caster might over Colour. More investigation on this aspect of the subject is recommended.

Conservation Status
NONE: "Unfortunately, there were less stringent methods of conservation employed when the Quinnial were alive. Most were captured and subjected to the awful, barbaric race formats of the Thale Duocracy. The Thale nobility thought it most entertaining to see the Quinnial act as mounts for Faun riders. These strange races would culminate in wanton slaughter as the finish post was trapped in all manner of ways. The organizers of these races sought to make these finishes always new and surprising, so that the crowds were amused and so that the Quinnial might not learn to survive. Why the Thale made such painstaking effort to eradicate the Quinnial is not yet known.
