Potions

A potion can solve almost any problem when used properly, and they can cause almost any problem when used improperly. - Alchemist David Jetstream

Overview

There are a variety of potions available in almost every settlement one can visit. The creation of potions is a time-consuming, highly technical, and arcane process. Therefore, merchants often need to import potions from alchemists, professional or otherwise (remember to always inspect the product before buying). Sometimes, the seller of potions is the alchemists that prepares them. Such shops are rare. It should be noted that potions are generally expensive. Potions can be made for a variety of uses that include: healing, strength, and invisibility.   Take care though, overuse of potions can have a detrimental effect on the user. Side-effects of overuse may include: nausea, vomiting, disfigurement, and death. Some potions include other side-effects unique to its kind. If planning to use potions on a daily basis, consult an accredited Alchemist for proper potion preparation and usage.   For most potions, the length of time for its effects on the user is dependent on the quality of the potion.

List of Known Potions

Acid Resistance

Grants the user increased resistance to acid. If the potion is improperly prepared then it could become an acid itself.

Anti-Toxin

Remedies any toxic ailment to the user. It is commonly used by royalty. Care must be taken to ensure that this kind of potion is properly prepared as it could easily become a toxin itself, mild or severe.

Egg

No one knows why this potion was made. Ingesting the potion will cause one to become a fragile, jeweled egg (that's quite pretty to behold actually) for a short time period. Legend has it that an irate Queen of a particular and peculiar intent ordered its creation. An alarming number of alchemists have determined the recipe for this potion.

Feather fall

Allows the user to fall safely.

Greater Healing

Restores a greater portion of a user's health.

Healing

Restores a minor portion of a user's health.

Invincibility

This potion will make the one who drinks it immune to damage of all types for ddda short while. Only a master alchemist can produce such a potion, and the length of time of effect cannot be known until used.

Invisibility

Removes the user from the sight of others. However, one must take care to mind their shadow.

Freeze Resistance

Grants the user increased resistance to freezing effects. An improperly prepared potion can end up freezing the user.

Fire Resistance

Grants the user increased resistance to fiery effects.

Haste

This potion grants the user extra speed. The potency and duration of this potion depends on its quality. Care must be taken to ingest the proper amount as too much can cause someone to go too fast, or to result in a permanent loss of stamina once the effect wears off.

Strength

Grants the user increased strength. d

Superior Breathing

This potion can allow one to temporarily breathe in harsh environments, most commonly used underwater or on tall mountain peaks. One must not overdose on this potion as one could become dependent upon its ingestion to continue breathing. Grossly negligent preparation of this potion could result in a asphyxiated user.

Superior Dexterity

Grants the user increased dexterity. Use of this potion is prohibited in professional competitions. Care must be taken upon using this potion as an improperly prepared vial can result in limp bones, temporarily or permanently. Very few inflicted with the unfortunate side-effect have recovered.

Superior Endurance

Allows the user the ability to physically exert themselves for longer periods of time. Use of this potion is prohibited in professional competitions.

Superior Healing

Restores all of a user's health. This variety of healing is very rare.

Superior Intelligence

This one is rare, but it increases the mind's ability to think. Users report being able to string together thoughts more easily under the effects of the drug. However, only a few alchemists can properly prepare such a potion. Contraband versions have been known to permanently atrophy the mind of the user.

Superior Jumping

This is exactly what it appears to be. One must take care of how high they jump and to where for this potion does not grant invincibility to fall damage.

Superior Sight

This potion can grant the user enhanced vision. This can allow one to more easily see shades of color, make out distant objects and persons, sight in darkness, and sight through fog. Some have claimed that potions of this sort can restore sight to the blind, but that such use should be done under the supervision (pun intended) of a master alchemist.

Teleportation

This is one of the more dangerous potions to take. It was developed by an alchemist that wanted a way to travel instantly without the use of a teleportation circle. Once ingested it will teleport the user to a random point in space. Many have tried to pair the potion with an incantation in order to increase the precision of this spell, but the results leave much to be desired.

Transformation

This potion can temporarily alter one's physical form. Care must be taken to ensure that the potion is properly prepared else the user may be permanently transformed, although such instances are rare.

Truth

This potion encourages one to tell the truth, or to not say anything at all. Only a handful of master alchemists can produce such a potion. Improperly prepared potions of this variety can have several unfortunate side effects that incude: constant talking, never talking again, and always lying.
