Concerning Magic

Magic (also called arcane matter) is an invisible substance that is almost everywhere in the cosmos. Substances like plants contain certain levels of magic, giving them certain properties. In places, magic can become tightly packed together, creating untamed magic, or wild magic. Wild magic is a state where arcane matter becomes so energetic that it begins to defy laws and physics to an unimaginable degree. It can mutations in organic materials (like plants and animals), affect the weight of substances (like cause masses of earth to float into the clouds), and so on. Dead magic areas are where some sort of strong force or energy (sometimes caused by a powerful burst of magic) pushes away arcane matter, and magic cannot be used.   There are three types of magic: divine magic (coming from the deities in the heavens), malevolent magic (coming from the depths of hell), and neutral magic (coming from the elemental realms and the central realm). Divine magic is used by the deities, and can be granted use to mortals like priests and religious champions. Malevolent magic is used by dark lords and demons, and can be granted use to mortals like necromancers, warlocks and witches. Neutral magic is neither evil nor holy. It could be used for many purposes, like summoning an object, temporarily strengthening one’s armor, creating a flame, imbuing something with magical powers, or deceiving a person’s senses. Magic can be manipulated in many different ways, it just depends on one’s ability to control it.   All cognizant beings have some sort of ability to use magic. Beings such as fairies, gnomes and Faen have the natural ability to use magic because they are beings created from magic. Using magic slowly begins to exhaust them physically and mentally, and they are required to rest to regain their magical abilities. Other beings, such and Dwarfs and Men, must study magic and learn how to manipulate it. This also causes exhaustion both mentally and physically. Some people who gain magical powers for either being exposed to wild magic for long periods of time, through their magical bloodline, or for no reason at all. They are called sorcerers, and they have a special ability to control elemental magic. Magic applies the same to them. When people push their magic past their limit, it begins to eat away at them, and can completely destroy their physical being, leaving nothing but a pile of dust.
