Tsui'Am Courthouse

Tsui'Am courthouse houses the Raheddican Criminal Court which investigates and tries individuals charged with acts of genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and aggression. The Raheddican Criminal Court was created to deter acts of violence by governments on the Raheddican continent in order to prevent such events as the Blood Scourge War and the following Krsiljudi genocide. In an act of morbid irony, what was then the Tsui'Am temple, in which the trial and execution of Krsiljudi took place, became the Tsui'Am Courthouse.

Alterations

After being taken over by the Kingdom of Rhedya, all Krsi religious idols, imagery, and texts were collected and burned. While most of the stained glass was preserved, those depicting Krsi gods and deeds were destroyed and replaced with depictions of Krsiljudi defeat and Rhedyan victory. The first floor was expanded to provide space for auxiliary rooms and staff.

Architecture

The Tsui'Am courthouse follows a central dome plan. The nave, now serving as the main courtroom, stands on pendentives at three stories tall. Clerestory windows and a large oculus are fitted with stained glass, lighting the room up with color. The nave is surrounded by an uninterrupted ambulatory. Stairwells located on the Southeast and Southwest provide access to the second level of the ambulatory.   Situated on the Northeast and Northwest are two half domes. The second stories of which now serve as secondary courtrooms. An antechamber on the second floor connects the two courtrooms to one another providing a waiting area. On the first floor, the Northeast room serves as a witness waiting room and the Northwest room serves as a jury deliberation room.   After being converted to a courthouse, the first-floor building was expanded to provide rooms for auxiliary workers and judges. These rooms include a legal library, judges' chambers, mediation rooms, holding cells, evidence rooms, and jury suites among others. Another staircase on the North end provides access to the second-floor antechamber for easier access to the secondary courtrooms.

History

Tsui'Am temple was the largest temple in the Kingdom of Krsi. Located in the city of Tsui'Am in the Southeast of the Kingdom of Krsi, it was the location of one of the first battles of the Blood Scourge War in Krsi territory. The building became one of the major turning points of the war when it was occupied by Rhedyan forces. The Krsiljudi, unwilling to attack its holy walls were forced to cede the city of Tsui'Am and lost ground. Tsui'Am became a major staging area for the Kingdom of Rhedya and allied forces attacking from the South. During the occupation, the temple was purged of all recognizable Krsi religious iconography and the The Če'arem, a set of scrolls containing the forbidden knowledge of blood magic which was said to be held in Tsui'Am temple, went missing.   After the war ended, the Tsui'Am temple was one of many places where the execution of Krsiljudi were performed during the Krsiljudi genocide. Its nave served as a trial area to identify remaining Krsiljudi people as they are not too physically different from Čoljudi people. By the end of the genocide, the temple had been mostly transformed into a courthouse and when the Raheddican Criminal Court was formed, the Tsui'Am temple was chosen as its headquarters and it was renamed Tsui'Am courthouse.
