Jedina

Appearance

Jedina's surface is composed of mainly two types of terrain: old, cratered, dark regions, and younger, striated, light regions. The dark regions appear as large fields that take up approximately one-third of the moon's surface. The striated regions are likely formed by tectonic activity due to tidal heating. Cratering is more prevalent in the darker regions, particularly in the trailing hemisphere. Impact craters are shallow due to its icy crust and many ancient craters have become frosted over to form palimpsests whose high albedo makes them appear as white spots.

Mythology

The Baralian myth, The Kind Beast Lačnir, says that the moon is the Čavijet lord Zaśtnir. His brother Vatribno, consumed by his anger at not getting his desire, turned into a ball of flame to destroy Zaśtinir and the Beast. Not strong enough to defeat his brother but not wanting the Kind Beast to be hurt, Zaśtnir sacrificed himself, becoming a shield to protect the Beast. With neither able to beat the other, they circled endlessly in the sky, Vatribno becoming the sun, and Zaśtnir the moon.
He closed his eyes, his determination spreading out from him and forming a large shield that blocked the beast from the ball of fire. The fire was unable to get past the shield and so they circled endlessly.
In Taiwezen culture, the moon is said to be the goddess Medina, goddess of peace, happiness, protection, and weddings. It is said that at night, when the light shines on Mirror Lake, Medina visits her lover trapped beneath the surface.

Superstition

  • If you whisper your secrets to your reflections under a full moon, your secrets will be kept safe.
  • When Zaśtinik faces Čavijet, take action. When he is turned away, take caution.
  • In Močavi, weddings are usually held on the night of the full moon. It is said that on a full moon, the power of the Goddess Medina is at its strongest.

Color

The Močavi believe that a blue moon is a symbol of disaster and is bad luck, a yellow moon is said to bring wealth and prosperity and a red moon brings fertility and eternal happiness for a couple. In Baralj, however, a blue moon is considered to be a sign of good luck and people usually wear blue.
