Sirens

These song-weaving seafolk populate the coasts of Avenia. By nature, they are artistic and enterprising, often considered snobby by others.   Regardless of their collective reputation, the aquatic talents of sirens are essential to marine trade. Furthermore, much of the fishing market is owned by siren-run organisations.   Sirens average 100 years of life, but they do not feel the need to do much with that time so long as they are comfortable.   Though they are native to the sea, sirens can readily be found in taverns, entrancing those on land with their unique voices.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Sirens possess webbed extremities and streamlined bodies that allow them to traverse their native element. Furthermore, their ribs are lined with gills that allow them to breathe underwater to an extent; they must still resurface after some period of time.

Ecology and Habitats

Though well-suited for aquatic life, sirens are not truly marine. They cannot survive indefinitely underwater, and therefore build their societies in places where the water and land meet.   Sirens may settle in underwater caves with air pockets or on cliff and shoresides.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The bodies of sirens are adjusted for underwater activity. They possess an increased ability to see in low light and are able to communicate vocally even underwater.
