Boadings

The Boadings are the most warlike branch of the Tarilin. They take credit for stopping the advance of Verilius the Conqueror, and although the achievement wasn't theirs alone -- their armies were swelled by allies from the Abings and the Threlings, and the brutal northern winter was the strongest ally of all -- the conqueror's armies were indeed stopped in Boadica.   It is ironic, given how fiercely all the Tarilin tribes fought at the time to keep their land and culture free from Tilothrin influence, that the Boadings later intermarried so freely with the Tilothrin who followed Verilius into the north. The other two tribes condemn and deplore the mixture (and some of the Boadings do, too), but there's no denying that the Boadings have plenty of vitality.   They tend to be taller than the other two tribes, and brown eyes and dark hair are more common.   Many of the Boadings are seafaring folk, traders, mercenaries, and travelers. During the reign of Verilius they mostly abandoned raiding and piracy, but as his heirs squabbled and their divided kingdoms fell into decay, the old habits came back. Boading raiders and fighters have a fearsome reputation.
