Personal history

Although born in Ebron, Celeste grew up as a citizen of the Empire. She was born in the city of Covehaven, a city just south of the Nightshade forest. When she was just a baby, Celeste's single mother moved to the Empire city of Hellund. There, Celeste's mother raised her. While the two of them never had much money, they never went without food or at least a roof over their head.   While she was just a baby, her mother worked as a seamstress for a tailor in Hellund, but as Celeste got older, her mother turned to other means of making money. Wanting to send Celeste to a private school, her mother turned to prostitution as a means to afford the education she wanted for Celeste. And while her mother wasn't exactly proud to be a prostitute, she was very proud of Celeste's success at school and the education that she received.   For a while, Celeste didn't know of her mother's means of making money, and only found out when she was teased about it school. Celeste didn't want to believe that it was true, mostly because people were cruel and made up stories, and because her mother taught her things about being honorable and true. But, when she realized that her mother would come home at late hours of the night and always tired, no matter how much she slept, Celeste started to believe that her classmates might be right. Still, Celeste defended her mother, stating that she was still honorable and true, even if she had a job like she did.   Because of the dedication of her mother, Celeste was able to attend the best private schools in Hellund. She learned to read, write, play music, draw, history of the world, and all about religion in the Empire. When Celeste was a teenager, only about twelve or thirteen she made a promise to her mother that she would become a teacher in Hellund for young girls just like her. However, at thirteen, the direction of her life changed when she heard a voice in her ear:
You are needed, my child, for I know that you will find the answers the World seeks
This voice had only said that one sentence, and it left Celeste with more questions than anything. Celeste had no indication of who this voice belong to, or why she was contacted. There was only one thing that Celeste did know for sure: This voice was not of the mortal plane. So, while in school, Celeste turned her attention to two main subjects: Magic and religion. Celeste was particularly interested in magic. She analyzed it, studied it, copied spells and incantations until she could recite them from memory, practiced as much as she could, but still, she showed no real aptitude for it at all.   With all her dedication to magic and the other plane, Celeste wasn't able to produce a single spell for years. It wasn't until she was fifteen, two years after hearing the Voice, that an accident allowed Celeste to show her abilities at all. While at a shop, Celeste was reciting incantations to herself, just practicing like she always did, when she ran her hands over a piece of rose quartz at the jeweler's. Upon touching the rose quartz, she accidentally sent a bolt of fire across the shop, startling both her and shop keeper. Feeling bad, and also proud that she finally was able to do magic, she bought the rose quartz with all her money and used it as her arcane focus. Celeste was able to use the rose quartz at school to learn how to cast different types of powerful magic, eventually being able to use them with no issue.   Still, through all her research and practicing, Celeste still wasn't able to find any answers about the Voice. In those two years, she never even heard from the Voice again. Not hearing anything for all those years made Celeste believe that she might have imagined getting this meeting from the mysterious Voice. That was, until her mother died.   Celeste was sixteen at the time, and the death of her mother completely devastated her. Her mother had been the only family she had known, and was the only person that she was ever really close to. With the death of her mother, and Celeste still two years away from being done with her education, Celeste wasn't sure what to do any more. But, while she was at her mother's funeral, crying her eyes out, the Voice came to her once again.
My child, you are ready. Go to the Temple, and tell them you are now a student of the Blessed Mother. They will guide you...
Hearing the Voice again scared Celeste, but she was also positive that the Voice had chosen her for a reason. So, three days later, when Celeste was able to stop crying and get her meager possessions together, she went to the Temple. There, she was taken in and given a place to stay. When she told those who taught at the Temple that she was a student of the Blessed Mother, they rejoiced, and gave Celeste a name to go with the Voice: Cortix.   Over the next two years, Celeste learned everything that she could about Cortix, and what it meant to be a follower of the Goddess of Peace. She learned as much history and myth as she possibly could as well. What really interested Celeste though was the myth of the Seven Tomes. She turned her attention, and all her free time, to reading and learning about the Seven Tomes and their part in both the Chaos Era and the Settlement. Finally, only a few weeks after her nineteenth birthday, Celeste received another visit from Cortix, this time urging her to move forward to a different path:
My child, it is time. Find the answers that you seek, and find the Imperfect Owl...

Education

Celeste has been very well educated throughout her life. When she was little she went to the public schools in Hellund, but by the time she was eight, she was enrolled in the private schools. She went her entire educational career in private schools until she was sixteen, when she left to join the Temple's schooling.

While they do not consider themselves as an employer, Celeste does work as a priestess for the Temple of Cortix.
