Damon Johansson

Once, Damon Johansson was a company man, following his orders to the letter dressed in a plain grey suit and fedora. His job was to hunt down dangerous individuals, assess them and, if necessary, stop them using whatever force was required. Damon, like his father before him, and his father before him, was a member of the Gatekeepers - a secret society sworn to protect the City.
That was until he came home one night to find his wife murdered, and his seven-year-old daughter standing over the body, a wicked grin on her face. He then watched on in horror as his daughter tore her entrails out, her last moments a look of terror as she stared at her own bloodied hands.
The man he’d been hunting, a Rift of Asmodeus, had discovered where Damon lived and used his abilities to possess Damon’s daughter, forcing her to commit those heinous acts.
When he finally hunted down the Rift, the man just laughed as Damon executed him, a bullet through the head. His last words echoed in the Gatekeeper's mind, a haunting reminder of everything he’d been through; ‘I’ll see you again soon enough’.
Wanting answers, Damon approached his superiors. He demanded to know why this had happened when they’d told him that his family would be safe, that no harm would come to them. They brushed it off, informing him that they'd investigate, but it was a dangerous line of business after all. These things can happen.
Unsatisfied, Damon threw himself into his work with a complete disregard for his safety. Ever mission he took was a gamble with death, and he embraced it.
Years past, and the fires that drove him had slowly began to wane.
Then, during one assignment, Damon discovered a cult of demonic worshipers, dedicating heinous acts to their patron: Asmodeus. This tipped Damon over the edge. He slaughtered the entire cult, forsaking his oath against murdering mundanes in a storm of righteous fury. It was only then when Damon stood there drenched in blood, his body aching from numerous injuries, that Asmodeus’ voice spoke to him. The demon mocked him for his failures and invited the Gatekeeper to hunt him, even though he would fail - just as he’d failed his family all those years ago.
His fires renewed, Damon took the challenge. In the following years, he clashed with Asmodeus several more times, and each time came up empty handed as the demon slipped away, his mocking laughter echoing in Damon's ears.
Now he hunts the city, a lone wolf seeking even the slightest whiff of his old foe.
