Shadar Kai

The Shadar Kai have been around for millennia until very recently. They were the antithesis of the Eladrin and were said to embody darkness when in reality they were just elves who lived under moonlight for generations. They were the originators of the moon court and had a deeply spiritual and magically advanced society until about 10 years ago when Balor rose to power and killed the last remaining Shadar Kai family and took their throne.
The Shadar Kai of old were a massive civilization that had adapted in many ways to their less fortunate environment and lack of tree cover from the irish moon. They were said to have incorperated hag magic into their society and were the first society to use it in a meaningful way making them overall very strange and a uniquely powerful society.
While the Shadar Kai became extinct very recently, their numbers have been declining for centuries due to their recessive genetics and the ancient war between them and the Eladrin which they lost and had most of their cities destroyed with no funds to rebuild.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Shadar Kai were much like normal elves but thier joints were noticeably more swollen, their skin less vibrant, their hair thinner, and their eyes much darker. They were seen as unnatural by other elves and learned to adapt on their own, becoming a new distict race separate from elves.

Growth Rate & Stages

Shadar Kai reach maturity at around 20 years old and live up to around 300 which is notably less than other elves and much less than Eladrin which partly led to their technological boom.

Ecology and Habitats

Shadar Kai are as adaptable as any other humanoid species but they are known for living in the overgrown Moon Court.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Shadar Kai have a slightly different metabolism than most humanoid species and don't store fat nearly as easily which has led to them needing overall less food to survive.

The Shadar Kai of ancient times were known for their complex religious structure and mostly theocratic government with the royal family being of high priesthood.

Facial characteristics

Known for their slightly larger than average skulls and upturned noses, shadar kai look like fairies. They have long pointy ears and almost black eyes giving them a mystical yet decrepit look.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Shadar Kai have always lived in the western half of Ireland and claimed that area as the Moon Court.

The Shadar Kai were known to have very strange magic used by hags and some specialized magicians. They used this magic to fortify their cities and to give them the strange kingdom they had.

Common Dress Code

Generally dress in the Moon Court involved a parasol and fairly fancy black Victorian wear but this wasn't the case everywhere. Many towns on the outskirts of the Moon Court include cloaks and far less fancy clothes.

Skinny and almost gaunt with little muscle or fat. Despite this they are very dexterous.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Shadar Kai have pale grey skin and lack the melanin that gives humans darker skin. This is due to them living primarily in moonlight.
