Summer Camp Prep 2026

I've been using worldanvil for a few years now and have yet to participate in summer camp so I thought this year I'd give it a whirl as I begin to develop a new world.

Pledge

As this is my first time participating in summer camp I have decided to pledge for the lowest prompt band, copper. This is because, as stated, it is my first time participating, and I have to work, and I have a main project ongoing that is taking up most of my attention.

All the prompts answered will be for the world of Auterradon. This is a world that I have a lot of ideas for but have never gotten around to actually properly building due to my main writing project taking up most of my creative time.

Week 1: Love

Love is an interesting topic to write about. It comes in so many forms. Many of my story ideas include love as a big part of the driving factor of the story. The first story I plan to write based within this world is based around the love between 2 characters (Not romantic or platonic, but a secret, third thing) As summer camp progresses, the focus of my worldbuilding within the world of Auterradon will focus on the things needed for this story, a single continent and the things within.

Listed to the side is the prompts provided for this week. Having rolled a 3 on the dice, I created a meta document for this world. This was a fun challenge, and I completed the meta to the best of my abilities, though as the world develops some things may be tweaked to better fit the world as my vision of it grows.

Optional Warmup Prompt;

Write a settlement that's associated with love.

Week 2: Growth

As this is an underdeveloped project that I've had on the backburner for a while, there is plenty of things that can be focused on to grow and develop.

Choose your area of focus;

The world of Auterradon is planned to be vast, numerous continents, cultures and empires. Once I have completed my main project and turn my attention towards the stories within this world, there is one in particular that will be written first. So for summer camp the region this story will be set within will be the area of focus - The Slumbering Plains of Liakuth.

Completing Hopscotch Prompts;

A 4 was rolled for this weeks hopscotch, to create an article about the area of focus. The Slumbering Plains is a vast space of snowy emptiness except for one settlement that has begun to bring more life to the region.

Week 3: Loss

Loss is a subject that plenty can be written about within the Slumbering Plains. There is a rich history of death and loss, though that can often be dark, and I prefer to keep hope within my stories, so the loss of death will not be explored in depth, if at all, and instead other things that can be lost will be focused on; history, languages, etc.

Plan your writing time;

As someone who cannot stick to a writing schedule to save his life, this task is probably going to be the hardest part about summer camp. I try to write everyday, and for the most part I succeed at this, but that is for my main writing project. As this worldbuilding project is more of a side project for now, writing for it everyday is not ideal. At the start of summer camp prep I pledged copper, for a minimum of the completion of 8 prompts. If split evenly, thats 2 per week, which is the current goal, and will be split over 2 days.

So for summer camp, for this worldbuilding project specifically, I plan to write 2 days a week, up to a maximum of 3 hours a day, though I will not decide on specific days as the pressure to perform well on a certain day tends to give me a bit of writers block.

Completing Hopscotch Prompts;

For this weeks hopscotch I rolled a 1: to write about my typical creative process and routine. Most of the time before I sit down and write I have loads of ideas. I write down every idea I have throughout the day, no matter what I'm doing, so there is plenty of things to build from when I do sit down to write.

My creative process often involves taking one (or more) of these random ideas and building it into one of my worlds or stories. I put on some background music, usually one of those 2-3 hour long ambience youtube videos, then I write. It's pretty basic but it works for me and I can get a lot written within those few hours.

Optional Warmup Prompt;

Write a language lost to time.
