Inux

While many Ausran enjoy abilities beyond scientific comprehension, some are not as fortunate. This smaller subset of the species is born without any natural abilities. They can rarely compete with their more powerful counterparts, the hux, but they still find a way to make do with the hand they've been dealt.   "I descended the crystal stairway, followed closely by Shulak and Braccus. At the bottom, we were greeted warmly by a few servants who quickly fetched chairs for us, along with a wooden table and a few glasses of water. I was not suspicious until the drinks arrived. Shulak spent no time waiting, instead downing her glass in a single swig. Braccus sat still but alert, her eyes scanning the room and finding ourselves surrounded by closed doors. The servants quickly vacated the room once they had finished their furnishing. They seemed as if they were in a hurry.   Braccus's eyes suddenly widened. 'Oh Gods,' she whispered, putting her hand to her thigh and drawing a thin bladed, two handed sword. Shulak made a face, the weakening powers of the solution slipped into her water beginning to take effect as she fell out of her chair, clutching her stomach. She would be fine, but it was clearly meant to be used as a diversion.   'Draw your weapon,' ordered the HCP. I was way ahead of her, having pulled out my knife seconds after Shulak hit the floor. The doors around us were smashed open from the outside, revealing a troop of black-clad Vanguards, armed to the teeth. They aimed their rifles at us, ready to fire. Ready to kill.   They didn't have a chance to fire the first shot. I only saw Braccus for a split second before she barreled straight through the lot on the right, impaling two Vanguards on the tip of her blade right at the start. By the time she'd reached the opposite wall, she'd already killed at least three of them, smashing the last one into the wall with a grisly smack. Her robes had disappeared, replaced by a skin-tight battle-ready frame. Which means she had protection from the slugs fired out of the rifles- a luxury I did not have.   A shot rang next to my ear, ricocheting off the wall behind me and straight through the [flowerpot] on the table, showering it with dirt. I picked up my chair to use it as a shield as I charged at the second mass of targets to the right of the room. All was for naught as a body from the other side smashed into the poor souls in front of me. I turned to look at the source of the living projectile to see Braccus had already dealt with her adversaries.   'You should be ashamed!' I heard her bellow as she crashed into the rest of the Vanguards, her expression detailing her elation. 'I am but a humble inux. You cannot best me?'   She grabbed the last woman standing by the neck and shoved her against the wall. 'Jeltin had no intention of meeting with us, did she?' she spat in the Vanguard's mask. Getting no response besides panicked breathing and struggling, she wound up for a massive punch and proceeded to put her fist through the mask and skull of her captive, auguring all the way through the stiff rock wall.   My jaw must have dropped a considerable amount, for when she turned back to me, she quipped 'Hey, when you haven't an ability of your own, practice to make yourself one.' Shulak groaned, squirming under the table as her stomach did somersaults in her rib cage." -Pashaman Gaheltno, Eunjeck Entho (Corporal). Beginning of Red Snow

Transmission & Vectors

Birth. Non-infectious.

Causes

Unknown.

Symptoms

No ability manifestation at the Terran equivalent of age 3.

Treatment

None. Deal with it.

Affected Groups

Newborns, who then have to live with the condition for the rest of their lives.

Prevention

There is no way to prevent a youngling from being born an inux.

History

Inux have been around since the beginning of the Ausran race. Back then, their numbers were the greater percentage of the population, but most Ausran parents have every expectation that their offspring will be born hux instead of inux.

Cultural Reception

Anywhere from rejection to acceptance.   Western: Younglings born as inux are treated the same as all younglings. A good tradesman doesn't need to be a hux. They do suffer from bullying by their youngling hux counterparts, however.   Northern: Shunned. If a youngling is born inux, they are shipped south to "rehabilitation" centers, in which they must toil for hours on end with no breaks until they either die, or become strong enough to survive in the eyes of their Northern peers. Needless to say, the North boasts the lowest inux population by region.   Eastern: Younglings born inux are treated more harshly by their culture, if only because hux are utilized for the agricultural business in the region. Treatment depends mostly upon the town.   Midland: Younglings born inux are assigned to a trainer that helps them become on par with their peers in feats of strength, speed, and intellect. There are trainers that choose to specialize in one of these particular fields.   Southern: Much about Southern culture is unknown and undocumented due to their relative secrecy, but they seem to be very inclusive towards their inux populations- one doesn't need an ability to be good at fishing.
