Humani / Homo Sapiens - The Tribe of Humans

The oldest known tribe of the Free Folk, the tribe of Humani are the shapers, the tinkerers, the stonemasons who craft the world to their needs.     Adaptable and resilient, the tribe of Humani are the materialists of the Free Folk.  They commune together in everything from small villages to massive fortress cities.  They are the tool masters, the shapers of stone, the nature tamers and the ambitious.  Of all the Free Folk, no tribe has impacted the history and politics of the Known Realms as much as Humans have.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humani are rugged, adaptable and in every other way the most average of all their cousins of the Free Folk.  They are not as naturally adept at the bending of mana as are the Eldrani.  They are not as attuned to the natural world as are the Kin.  They are, on the other hand, touched by destiny and this can be seen in the heroic tales of the past.  While humans start unbearably average, they can, should they survive, achieve far grander heights of prowess.

Genetics and Reproduction

Humani are the most prolific and wide spread of all the Free Folk.  In almost every country, Humes can be found either rising it up or passing through.  Humans are communal creatures by nature and they breed correspondingly.  Humans tend to come from larger families than their cousins.   The exception to this rule is where a Kin-born spawns from Human parentage.  While this is quite rare, it does sometimes happen, which some Humani take well, and others see as a curse.

Ecology and Habitats

The Toolmeisters

Humans are adept at carving out a living almost anywhere, but they are particularly good at building.  Most humans are raised either in walled towns, pastoral farm villages or massive fortress cities.  Driving political, cultural and economic activity, Humani are at home in almost any environment from the hottest deserts to the most frigid arctic ports.   The success of humanity is their ability to use community and construction to overcome environment.  Humans are as much brave explorers as they are simple farmers and it is this variation their success as a species can be found.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Anything, Anywhere

Humans are omnivores that require thorough cooking of most foods.  However, their ability to adapt to various forms of sustenance has allowed them to spread prolifically across the Realms they inhabit.

Additional Information

Social Structure

From Village to Empire

Human social structures are as complex as they are as a species, and as varied.  Humans build everything from small tribal councils, to mercantile republics, to despotic empires.  While most Humani exist in kingdoms of one form or another, republics and empires have also arisen over the various ages.   Humani noble and royal houses often guide the affairs of the species, but if the story of humanity reveals anything, it's that even the basest peasant can rise on merit should their talent and the stars so correctly align.

Civilization and Culture

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Humani and Eldrani

Humans and the Eldritch range, depending on the local history, from steadfast allies to heated enemies.  There is little inherent biases between the two on a tribe level, but the less patient, more ambitious humans often ruffle the slower, more deliberate Eldrani.

Humani and Kin

Humans and Sage Kin are natural neighbours and find themselves living with or near each other in harmony often.  Hunter Kin and Humani are quite the opposite of one another in many ways and it often leads to racist tension at best, warfare at worst.  However, several Humani kingdoms and principalities find ways to be at peace with their more feral cousins.
