Gem Magic

Gem magic works because of one simple concept all gems on Aurelia can contain a small taste of Tataluk's power and the blue crystals of Tataluk's heart have much larger potential stores of this magical power. Power can be infused into a gem by arcane means to make a talisman of sorts or for many other rituals, but this arcane magic is not Gem Magic. Gem magic is infused into a crystal through the act of life, in movement or song. Gems that grow from creatures in the heartlands such as the antlers of the Eintiel will be holding a great depth of power. In circumstances like that the magic can be seen as a soft glow eminating from inside the gems and some of the magic will be absorbed by the animal benifiting it in a variety of ways.
From life flows power, caught by gems, and so from gems power can manifest life. When groups of charged gems are brought together they form a sentience in a way not unlike Tataluk's apotheosis, but on a miniscule scale in comparison. These living creatures of gems are known as Golems. Due to the difference in power concentration between normal gems and Heart Gems most Golems will need some amount of Heart Gems at their core or they will have to be monumentally large. Once gems organize them selves into a Golem it will start to produce its own Gem Magic through its life. There is variation within the Gem magic found throught the world. This variation is displayed in the opalescence that plays on the surface of the Gems it is stored in. There are 3 natural colors this opalescence can take Red, Green and Blue, each is linked to different qualities of the Resonance as seen by the Taluk. Red is the color of Rhythm a constant beating pulse that flows through everything. Green is the color of Melody, the flow of life over and among the Rhythm. and Blue is the hardest color to explain to a non Taluk, but it is best described as the color of Composition, not the combination of the other two but the ever changing direction of the Resonance.
The power stored within either Heart Gems or normal crystals is used in two main ways by the inhabitants of the world: Stonesinging and Artifizing. Stonesinging is practiced mainly by the Taluk as one needs to either be made of Heart Gems or have a instrument of some kind made of Heart Gems to weild it in this way. Stonesinging uses, as the name would suggest, song or Melody to weild the Gem Magic in crystals. Abilities that Stonesingers can use include the reshaping of crystal and absorbing the Gem magic into their body to gain various benifits such as strength, speed, and mental clarity. Artifizing benifits many thorught Aurelia, but the main master of Artifizing is the Jodin's aptly named Artifizing guild. For over a thousand years the Jodin under the Heartlands have been mining Heart Gems and using them in their contraptions. Rather than extracting Gem Magic from the gems like Stonesinging Artifizing uses mechanisms to cause disonance within the crystals causing the resonance in them to be let out as mechanical energy. This process of utilizing disonance adds no Gem Magic into the system it only breaks the magic in the Gem, eventually draining the Gem of all power, leaving it with no shine or color and ultimately causing the Gem to crack and crumble.
