The Postas All Around Co. (/p/ /ɒ/ /s/ /t/ /ɑː/ /s/)

"My humble self is no more than one of the oldest residents of our town, and founder of the Postas All-Around. I served alongside the Wanderers for two centuries now, to the best of my capabilities, no matter if it was to fight an army or to ensure the housing of our residents. We hold ourselves to our contracts. If we have a job, no matter how little or impossible it is, we get it done, and done well" - Big Boss Konrad

Summary

The Postas All Around Co. is an adventurer and craftsman guild, based in the city of Everfjord. It is one of the more notorious organizations of the western lands of Aurelia, known for their reliable workforce, craftsmanship and aid during certain rebellions. Founded by Konrad Keinzhlen, it is currently led by Venar of Everfjord.

History

Founding

The 3rd century saw the rise of syndicates in the Azure Federation, more preciscely in Leonia and Sylviria. These crime factions dealt in drugs, weapons and worst of all, slaves, usually aimed at the island colonies where law against slavery was barely enforced, if at all. The unfortunate souls themselves were from the eastern lands, captured by pirates or raiders, but it wasn't uncommon that certain generals allowed prisoners to be put on the black market as well during the times of the Great Wars.
Over time the slave trade started dying down, less because of intervention by the governments and more so as a result of the wars seizing and the raiders either keeping the captured or selling them within the Dirwani Horde instead. But one factor that was shocking to many was the overnight dismantling of the biggest crime organization within Leonia in Year 377. It's leader, Konrad of Imperia decided to set all its slaves free, and turned a new leaf, leaving the country along with his wealth. His former subordinates were subsequently hunted down by the royal knights, as they lost all political protection.
Unknown to the public, Konrad was killed by one called Carl the Unpaid, a death knight who had a vendetta against slavery, and had a plan in mind. Taking his appearance after the act, the new Konrad took the old one's wealth and left the country, not before setting the slaves in the pens free. Giving them an option to either try and return to their old lives, or join him willingly, and become part of a free society, most decided to stay with him, some as a form of gratitude, others for there was nowhere to return to.
The group of about three hundred people left for the eastern shores of the Odyssea, aiming for the fabled Tree of New Life. It is there that every century for a single year's span, strangers from another world arrive in the hundreds, and now a specific group of those so called Wanderers were planning to create a permament settlement around that place. When Konrad's group arrived, they met up with these Wanderers, calling themselves the Sentinel Order, a group of veteran adventurers and mercenaries. Offering them aid in the construction, by the year 380, Everfjord, the city of Wanderers was finished. The same year, the forming of the Postas All Around Best Adventuring and Craftsman Corporation Guild. It was shortened soon after, and Konrad was not allowed to name things any longer.   The Postas established a heaquarters within the city, and acted as construction workers for the projects to come. The Sentinels wished to have residence for all new wanderers that may arrive in twenty years, and that meant a lof of structures to be built. Besides that, many of the last Wanderer wave besides the Sentinels returned, having not found their place in the world. Others also arrived, running from conflict, tyranny or poverty. Soon, the poplation reached almost two thousand, which meant more work opportunities for the Postas, who were well trained and disciplined by the handy-man Konrad himself. Regardless of the hard work however, few complained for he payed them handsomely, something that made newcomers to apply as well.
Unknown to the outsiders however, the core of the Postas also started working as "legend hunters". Under the guise of trade missions, they sought out abandoned castles and creatures from myths. Both for the bounty they could find, and for Konrad, to prepare them for what is to come.

After the Third Wave

Year 400 marked the Trium Fluctus, the third wave of Wanderers. Konrad immediately got to work. Through him, the newly arrived adventurers were assigned for various assignments, secretly pushing them towards a certain goal he had in mind. With the Postas' assistance, the Third Wave Wanderers interfered in a hobgoblin raid targeting Everfjord, the aberrant monster invasion of the Millheim Druid Grove, the Brothers' War between Balimor and Gondria, the civil war in Onyxbridge and the Great War against the Free Empire. Under about a year the guild gathered over two thousand members, with several bureaus established in foreign nations.   All the while the core of the organization (the First Company) worked hard on Konrad/Carl's project: a plan to defeat a crazed former adventurer simply called the Legate. Formely an ally of Carl, the Legate was building a secret army and wanted to sieze a powerful artifact, called the Second Eye of Karsius for himself. As the man who hid the relic, sought a way to prevent the madman from claiming it, an endevour for which he required aid and lots of research, all provided by the new Wanderers.   In the winter of that year, Yellowgrad was attacked by an organized gnoll army. The Postas, that was supposed to protect the human settlement was tricked into a hunt, leaving the city open. Reinforcements arrived in time, and the ngolls were wiped out with minimal casulties, however the guild still broke its contract. Konrad realized that his carefree attitude will not work well with the promise of holding key cities on the border, and neither will the semi-mercenary Postas fill the role of a standing army. thus that night Konrad was reported dead, and the Postas disbanded on their own terms, before the public turned against them for leaving their post. Sergeant Kitan took command of most of the combat focused members, forming the Myrmidon Order, aiming to become an elite mercenary guild. Venar was left with the craftsmen and some of the First Company officers. All the while Carl took one of his other aliases and focused on his project regarding the Legate.

Post-Reform

In Year 401, after the destruction of Vajdahunyad and the fall of the Free Empire, a great beam illuminated the sky, stretching between Sylviria and Gondria. The Legate used an artifact, called the Observatory of Kings to discover the location of the Second Eye of Karsiur, his prime target. But the beam was sawn by many others, including those who wanted the Eye themselves or the head of the Legate. In the middle of Gondria, a great eight sided battle ensued, and the Postas was present - through adventurers sent by Venar and the Myrmidon Order. In the end, the Legate failed, for by then a solution was discovered. The adventurers held him off long enough for the set trap to activate, Carl claiming that the eye was beyond his reach now. For it was now cursed, only those with a pure heart could ever hope to wield it, something his opponent will never be.
The Legate escaped and the Postas was miraculously victorious. The Eye was left in the hands of Queen Athena of Leonia, and the guild turned its attention towards its own matters. Kitan disappeared from sight, and so did Carl shortly after.
Now, the Postas All Around Company is one of the biggest craftsman and construction companies around the Azure Federation, working as an adventurer's guild in Everfjord only.

Structure

The guild is organized into Companies, each counting about a hundred members (except the First) and dealing with an assigned role. Each company is seperated into two or three branches and those into squads for better management.   Members of the guild are no longer outright mercenaries, however they are all trained in martial or arcane arts. The First Company also specializes in hunting treasures, looting dungeons and tracking legendary creatures.

The First Company

"Rule number one of the world: is that on a universal scale our deeds are less than worthless. Change is determined by beings far greater, stonger, cunning and intelligent than us. Any attempt to distrupt their grand plans is futile" "Rule number two: cheat rule number one" - motto of the First Company
Formely Konrad's personal strike force, the First Company only has about a dozen or so members. They are however all quite well trained and experienced, being adventurers themselves. Currently they are stationed at the headquarters in Everfjord
