Ritual of Binding

Both a spell developed by Corlan En-Dal and a period of about 6 months during which he cast it to bind each of the elemental lords and the bulk of their armies inside The Grande Sourcestone. At the time, Corlan believed that the elementals would be slain and their essences absorbed, bound, filtered back out into the world of Aurus over time. In actuality, the spell had created an extradiminsional space that was permanently temporally and spacially fixed to the location of the Grande Sourcestone that powered it. Each elemental type that was imprisoned within this space caused it to expand and mutate to create an environment that would accommodate the needs of that elemental population to live. The increasing draw on the on the stone's power combined with the strain on reality from it existing in the same space as the prison dimension resulted in The Fracturing when the Grande Sourcestone's physical form cracked under the pressure and released all of the elementals as well as the energies of the ritual and a burst from the stone itself that scoured the entire world.
