History
The first elves were humans of a ruling class on Atem. With their plentiful access to voidstone, the humans began exposing themselves to it; even ingesting it. Over the course of years, a person would change to become slender, tall, and frail. As well as the physical changes, the people also began to develop a 'sixth sense' and gained the ability to use some of the void powers often granted to those blessed by a god, although to a much lesser extent.
For a period, the elves ruled over all humans, keeping their lofty positions in human kingdoms, beginning around 870 ED. After a period of time, the division between the types of mortals generated hatred between the two and conflict broke out. The elves founded their own nations and quickly grew powerful with their capable magic. Wars between them and humans were often destructive for both sides, as their opposition possessed a brawn that the elves no longer had.
When tensions grew before the Great War, the elves sought to gain dominion over the other races as they had once had. After the ensuing chaos and the Monstrous Upheaval, the elves were brought nearly to their knees.
The elves still hold some land and power for themselves, although most live among humans again while the mortal races fight for survival. They are little more than strange-looking humans in these times.
