Hardship and stoicism define dwarven culture. Those who cannot take care of themselves deserve no pity or aid. This philosophy, although ruthless, has allowed for the survival of many dwarves.
Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals
A gift of food carries great weight in dwarven culture and must be accepted or rejected carefully. A food gift from a person of lower standing than yourself must be heartily rejected while a gift from a superior should be gratefully accepted.
History
The origins of dwarves is tied to the creation of a servant social class by ruling humans in the year 811 ED. Over the course of a few generations, many of those servants had been starved and, as a result, had smaller children. These would eventually become known as dwarves.
Not all dwarves remained as servants and, by the late 800's ED, the dwarves had several of their own governments and kingdoms. The superficial differences between dwarves and humans made conflict inevitable and, in the year 950 ED, the Great War began.
Along with the other mortal races, dwarves suffered heavily from the Great War and from the Monstrous Upheaval. While fledgling governments still exist, dwarves have largely returned to their position as slaves and servants for ruling humans.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Dwarves often exist in servitude to humans and elves by the nature of their creation and history.
