Valley of the Mage

Geography

The Valley of the Mage lies hidden within the central Barrier Peaks mountain range, concealing within its confines the source and headwaters of the Javan River. The only natural passage through the surrounding wall of mountains lies near the northern end of the valley. From here the river exits, flowing beneath the trees of the Dim Forest. This lush valley is one of the most naturally isolated realms in the Plains of Ash. The closest neighboring states are Thyren and the Gran Dutchy of Geoff.

History

During the years of the Green Scourge, the Valley of the Mage, an elven outpost for the Cormanthyr Empire, had lost contact with the greater Cormanthyr rulership. Barely surviving the farming communities of elves, humans, half-elves, gnomes, and halfings turned political power of the valley over to a select group of Wizards. These Wizards would hide the valley using power wind magics to create fogs, while gnomes and halflings placed traps throughout the valley entrance. Since then power has remained in the Wizards hands, though they do little to govern the land, allowing the elves to remain true to their routes in the Cormanthyr Empire.
Because of this, it can be annoying for outsides to find a wizard in political power, since none of them truly care enough to claim the title of ruler, and those that do seem to have gone into hiding, keeping utmost secrecy and only speaking to the valley through the First Protector, the leader of all the armies in the Valley of the Mage.
