Historical Context

Sok Viss (or Snaviks) was the capital of the Hellmusk Empire, which existed for five hundred years in what is today eastern Surval, controlling the region around Lake Vapple. This Draconic clan grew rich through trade networks in the south of Surval and Tablerock, and much of what we know about it comes through records of Sijic writers. At its height, it had a population of about 2,000.
The city was established by Ilpe Dunamami around 3460 as part of the rise of the Hellmusk kingdom. The land around their new capital was rich, agricultural and pastoral land, and the empire used this prosperity to launch a campaign to reconquer Tablerock and other lands they had previously ruled in.
King Kelto Tiblisigs (reign 3564 – 3596) was perhaps the most effective ruler of Sok Viss, embarking on a series of military reforms, including the introduction of trained musketeers to his army, as well as employing mercenary cavalry to the already-formidable lizard riders of the kingdom. He established trade relations with Darkshelf, Eru-Tovar, and the Pijic Court (who paid him the compliment of a large ambassadorial delegation.). His chroniclers praised his victories in over a thousand battles and three hundred wars.
The city was besieged and destroyed in 3809 during the Surval crusades. Today the ruins of the city are still visible, and there is some interest in rebuilding this once-mighty capital into a new, modern city.
