Council of Merchants

The richest and most powerful nobles of Carcino serve on the Council of Merchants. Usually being represented by the head of the house, most of the council is male, however there is no rules against women sitting on the Council.   The Council decides maters of trade and wealth that the King might not be tactile enough to understand. The Council is in charge of all trade agreements and trade wars. Trade Wars are expected to be paid for by the Council or members of the council apart of the Trade War, as to prevent the draining of the national treasury on Trade Wars, an all to Common and frequent thing in Carcino.

Appointment

Houses are appointed to the Council of Merchants every five years during Summer. A senate meeting is held where the three main voting assemblies (theĀ Comitia Centuriata, the Plebian Council, and the Tribal Assembly) to determine if any new houses or old houses should be voted in or out of the Council of Merchants.

History

Founding

The founding of the Council of Merchants was done by Sigismund I and was intended to help oversee complex matters of trade and foreign affairs. For many years the council did just that.

Reformation

The reformation of the council's duties wouldn't happen until the assassination of Elio Ignasio VII and the royal family. It was this string of assassinations and the failure of a continued bloodline to be appointed the council took up the duties and roles of the emperor.
