Consul

A consul holds the highest elected political office of the Carcinian Republic, before the king, and ancient Carcinian's considered the consulship the highest level of the cursus honorum (the course of honor; an ascending sequence of public offices to which politicians aspired). Each year the citizens of Carcino elect two consuls to serve jointly for a one-year term. 
There are two consuls in order to create a check on the power of any individual.
When there is a king the consuls become more symbolic representatives of Carcino's republican heritage and held very little power or authority, with the King acting as the supreme authority.
