Celestial Fury Item in Asyur | World Anvil

Celestial Fury

Creation

The Celestial Fury was created in combat and bloodshed on a distant world. It's then holder, Yami Munenori, was surrounded by some of the most threatening and powerful foes the blade had ever fought, all while being drained of its sunlight. It was during this extreme process that the blade of light was tempered, and as the light-draining gem-obelisk exploded, the blade absorbed all the lost-light, as well as light stolen from thousands of stars, transforming it into the Celestial Fury, fueled by the cosmic light of thousands of stars, forged on a dead planet drifting through the blackness of space. This event created a cosmic burst of light that was visible from neighboring crystal spheres for hundreds of years. This even, where both light and dark existed at once at that place, was locally called The Syzygy Cascade.

"Many centuries ago, a trumpet archon named Chin Yi fell in love with a mortal man in Shou Lung and swore to protect him from enemies should he ever ride to war. When that time came, however, Chin Yi's patron goddess Kwan Ying forbade her to intervene, not wishing to contribute to the bloodshed. When Chin Yi's beloved was cut down by a yuan-ti warlord, her grief was terrible and her wrath immediate: Ignoring Kwan Ying's warnings, she flew onto the battlefield and took up her beloved's katana, using the blade to cut down the warlord and all those who served him. She continued the slaughter of the yuan-ti army until Kwan Ying herself appeared before her, arms open and eyes full of sympathy. "If it will stop this slaughter, I will ease your pain and end your suffering."

"I do not wish to end my suffering," replied Chin Yi. "I wish for my fury to sound throughout the ages, now and forever." Wanting to help her servant, but not wishing to unleash such powerful fury on the world, Kwan Ying bound Chin Yi's spirit to the blade of the man she had failed to protect, and then hid the weapon in a warrior's tomb. The tomb was later infiltrated and the weapon stolen, and although Chin Yi's cries could no longer be heard through the steel of the blade, her vengeance was as brutal as ever."

You have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with Celestial Fury. When you roll a natural 20 on your attack roll, you deal 10 additional lightning or thunder damage of your choice. The weapon uses Honor as its key ability whenever it is required.

The Celestial Fury can only be handled by individuals of chaotic nature, unless chosen by the blade itself. Anyone else who touches the blade, is regularly shocked by electricity. To chaotic beings, the sword grants immunity to all forms of lightning, natural and magical, and protects them and their belongings from wetness due to adverse weather such as fog, rain, and storms, but not being submerged in water.

Booming Thunder (Instantaneous). Upon drawing the katana's blade, the scabbard bursts with both thunder and lightning. The wielder is immune to the fallowing effects, but others caught within 10 feet must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or become blinding for 1d4 minutes, and deafened for 1d12 minutes. Looking away or blocking ones ears helps someone resist these effects.

Stormy Weather (Continuous). Moreover, while Celestial Fury is drawn, the weather grows inclement across a 4-mile wide area centered on the blade, regardless of local weather conditions. This storm gathering is similar to the spell control weather, but only ever made the weather worse: winds strengthen, clouds increase, precipitation grows, though temperature remains unchanged. This cannot be dispelled, but can be blocked by an anti-magic shell.

Discharge (Instantaneous). Upon landing any blow, the katana creates a booming thunder effect. Though not quite as loud as when it was drawn, the hit opponent must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or become stunned for 1d6 seconds.

Shocking Blow (3/day). Before attacking the wielder of Celestial Fury declares a Shocking Blow, using one of the three daily charges. On a hit, Celestial Fury deals 10 points of lightning and 10 points of thunder damage. On a miss, if the target is wearing metal armor, then the electricity arcs towards them, dealing 5 lightning and 5 thunder damage.

Call Lightning (1/day). Once per day, the wielder of Celestial Fury can make lightning strike, unleashing a lighting bolt at a target up to 240 yards away.

Invigorate (Passive, Continuous). Finally, the katana grants the wielder the power to fight for longer periods of time before coming exhausted (4 hours).

Personality

Bearing the spirit of the dragon, Celestial Fury is a sentient weapon of chaotic nature and it communicates with its wielder via semi-empathy. Its thoughts and desires focus on gratuitous displays of power and causing bad weather. Beyond this, Celestial Fury desires revenge on the descendants of those responsible for its death and loss of freedom.
