Salts
Among the many commodities harvested and traded across Sanctuary, salts are one of the most lucrative. Seemingly endless in supply as the ocean waters themselves, salts are easy to find, but not just anyone can grab a handful and call themselves salt miners. Organized merchant guilds have lain claim to swaths of beach-front lands along the coasts of centeral continent and hire working class citizens of Sanctuary to mine and transport the salts to cities and towns across the globe. While salts are plentiful in their original form, properly processing and storing them is the important tasks of the merchant guilds.
In addition to being a commodity, salts are the primary element which comprise the saltstorms which sweep across the Middle Seas, ravaging the hulls of ships and faces of sailors since time began. This natural phenomenon has given rise to several common sayings in Sanctuary, such as:
"Salt for the wound or wound for the salt," and
"Salt selling sailors assaulted at sea by storm salt sweepings."
Guilds along the eastern coast of central continent in the sea-port town of Igthith are the largest and most well known for the excellent quality and pricing of their product. Igthith people pride themselves in their work and the majority of the townsfolk are known to have permantly wrinkly white-stained hands and feet, leading some to believe they are decendents of sea salt giants. Rumors aside, Igthith is a city devoted to the dependable harvest and delivery of the product that made them rich.
