Sanctuary being made up of three main societal classes, most of the middle class citizens of each country choose to follow in the foosteps of their ancestors to work the fields as farmers. This is a highly respectable position and most families will swell with pride to quote the statistics of the harvest bounties which they tug from the earth with so much sweat and strain.
Although most of Sanctuary is agrarian, the belief that together men are stronger is upheld across all lands. Farmers group together in communities to support one another and in the same way, artisans, merchants and tradesmen group together in larger towns and cities. Those who do not wish to farm, ply their trades or deliver and sell goods the world over. It is because of this, a rising together of men, there is a way of life that most any citizen would find undesirable. That is the position known simply as, Cleaners.
Cleaners sweep the streets. Cleaners dispose of great piles of refuse. Cleaners transport the dead to their final resting place. Cleaners polish home interiors in the cold months and air-out pig stalls and horse stables in the warm months. Cleaners are important, but cleaners are exactly the opposite of the job title of clean. They take the dirt and waste upon themselves and send it to swamps and dumping grounds. Cleaners remove the ooze from an open wound so that clerics may tend to the sick. Cleaners produce soaps and oporate the bath-houses. Without Cleaners, citizens would be in a world of dirt and stink. Therefore, it is the job of Cleaners to keep men who live together, from having to avoid each other.
