Underminers

Underminers are a type of criminal who rob military complexes and banks by mining under them and destroying the foundation. Most underminers are of Bashirian descent who use their experience from being enslaved in the Bashir mines. Ex-underminers are often hired by foreign armies as mercenary sappers.

Career

Payment & Reimbursement

Underminers often target military complexes holding valuable weapons but also target banks and the homes of rich individuals (especially those who have earned their money with the aid of slavery). When one of their heists is successful each member of the undermining crew gets a share of the profit.

Perception

Social Status

Underminers are technically illegal yet a lot of commoners hold a strange type of respect for them. Their suave attitude combined with the complexity of their plans makes a successful underminer something to be secretly admired. Old underminers are known to write books which quickly become highly successful with the general populace. Especially the moon elves of Bashir admire them and consider them as folk heroes.

Operations

Tools

Underminers often use nothing more than a coolamon, a shovel, a pickaxe, and their brute strength as tools to dig their way to success. However some crafty underminers have created a special alchemical concoction which can easily destroy a huge chunk of rocks.   Underminers wear an helmet made out of turtle shell against falling rocks and tanned leather clothing which easily reflects dirt. For lighting in the dark caverns an underminer brings his pet Will-O-Wisp, an easy pet which needs no more than a little attention and some negative emotions to feed on.

Dangers & Hazards

The two main risks of an underminer are falling debris and being discovered by law enforcement. Many amateur underminers have died from the building they tried to rob collapsing before they could get out of the way.   Undermining is illegal and seen as terrorism almost anywhere on the continent but the severity of punishment divers per state. In Bashir for example law enforcement will look the other way when wanted underminers are seen in public as long as these underminer avoid targeting buildings in the state. In Al-Roc on the other hand Underminers are hunted down with great enthusiasm by law enforcement and even affiliation with underminers could bring an individual in serious trouble. Most elven slave-owners life in Al-Roc which combined with its close proximity to Bashir makes the country a popular target for underminers.
