Grey scale

"I don't have long my friend, but remember to stay vigilant as Reyim expects us to be!"

As their lives reach to an end, a Dragonian begin to lose the colour of their scales, which turns them into what is often called a grey scale, and eventually rot away into a shell of their former self.

Causes

An elderly Dragonian is as vital and strong as any other healthy Dragonian, but around their eightieth year of a Dragonian will finally begin to feel the burden of lost ages.

Symptoms

The old Dragonian begins to physically resemble a corpse with dull grey scales, a meagerly body, and clouded eyes. Their behaviour also changes as they lose their taste for food and lose their spirit.

Prognosis

At first the old Dragonian's begin to sense that their vitality is slipping away from them. No longer can they raise their claws like they used to be able to. Then their scales start to loose their bright colours, until they are dull and grey. Then they start to loose their apatite, slowly eating less until their bodies thin and shrivelled up. Their sight begins to fade and their eyes get clouded. After all this the Dragonian will breaths his final breath.

Cultural Reception

Once a Dragonian sees another Dragonian bear the telltale signs of grey scale they take of their hats or open their helmets, and take a deep bow. In their eyes the old one must have lived a long and gloriously life, one long enough to become a grey scale. The lost of such a strong and wise Dragonian must be mourned as the legions of Reyim are about to lose a valuable member. The grey scale themselves often begin to wonder why the gods create such a dreadful limit on ones life, but assure themselves in the thought that surely this is part of the grand design.
