Dragonian

"You did not fail my friend: we did."

Dragonians, known as Dragonborn in the folks tongue, are a race of Dragon-kin created by the deity Reyim to fight as soldiers against the enemies of Tenno.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragonians are tall creatures with a massive weight to match. Their feet end in three strong talon-like claws with a fourth claw in the back of the heel, their hands are similar to their feet with three claws and a clawed thumb instead of a rear claw. A Dragonians's head features a stump snout, a thick brow, and a reptilian frill on their cheeks and ears. On the back of the head, the Dragonians have a crest of hornlike scales which form a type of hair similar in looks to a humans dreadlocks. Their eyes are often red or gold in hue, although other colours are also possible.   Dragonians resemble in many ways what their nicknames suggest: an humanoid dragon. Dragonians exhibit many draconic features, including hide covered in thick scales, a large muscular body, and the capacity to spew forth a mana filled breath. The colour of a Dragonians scales correspond to the type of dragon they are related to: White scales for a frost dragon, bronze for a bronze dragon, etc. Their scales are typically at their thickest around the Dragonians forearms, lower legs, feet, shoulders, and thighs, with a very fine leathery covering over the rest of the body.   Like their fellow dragon-kin the dragons and kobolds, Dragonians are often mistaken for reptiles, but they are in fact warm-blooded creatures. In fact, the internal body temperature of the Dragonians is a few degrees warmer than that of most warmblooded creatures, being so hot as to seem feverish to the human touch. While this might seems disadvantageous for any other creature, the lack of hair and large mouth allowed the Dragonians to displace their body heat at an very high rate, allowing them to life comfortably in even the coldest climates while remaining no more vulnerable to high heats than humans.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Dragonians are a well-known for their dedication to honour as they still perceive themselves as divine soldiers, even though the gods have left. To a Dragonian, honour is more than just a word : it is more important than their life itself and cowardice is not simply a undesirable trait among Dragonian but a behaviour worthy of ritual suicide.   This honourable attitude partly springs from the Dragonians view of self-improvement. The draconic nature of the Dragonians means that they feel emotions more passionately than humans. Dragonians place great value on the individual skill of a person. Failing at a task is disgraceful to them and as a result they can sometimes push themselves to unhealthy extremes in order to complete their goals. This aspect of their behavior means few of Dragonians like to lay back and lazy around, always striving to become the masters of a particular skill and to become better. Those other races who view life in a similar fashion to them are viewed with great respect amongst the Dragonians and as a result most Dragonian adventurers came to their way of life through an desire to prove themselves to world and to win respect from their brethren.   More so than other races, Dragonians often wear their hearts on their sleeves, typically hiding neither their anger nor joy from their peers. They are enthusiastic about life, particularly success, and sulking on failure only last a little while before their disappointment changes into a strong new drive for improvement. Only a handful of Dragonians actually demonstrate traits that can be considered timid or reserved. Trust is a major factor in the lives of a Dragonians and each Dragonian expects others to be just as open and forthcoming with them as the Dragonian is to them.   Perhaps paradoxically, given the often rigid conditions of their societies, Dragonians have a strong sense of independence and self-worth. Most Dragonians, however, do not view this as a need to break away from society as individuals of other humanoid races would, but rather a reason to shape society for the better through their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Dragonians believe that they are responsible for those around them, with the wellness of the group ultimately reflecting on the talents of the individual. In this way, the successes and failures of each Dragonian are the successes and failures of the group they associate with. The success of the collective is the success but one, in the eye of the Dragonians, still needs to keep a sense of self and retain individuality. Ultimately, Dragonians do keep themselves accountable for their and their allies chooses as it surely was the poor counselling of the Dragonian and his poor judgement which concluded in this failure.
