Overview:
Whimsyfaire is a one-day festival that embodies the gnome spirit of curiosity, invention, and playful mischief. Held annually in Ashborne, it celebrates the gnomes' love for exploration, cleverness, and tinkering. The festival is a vibrant expression of creativity, where the streets of Ashborne transform into a lively carnival of invention and fun.
Events of the Day:
Dawn of Invention: The day begins with the unveiling of new inventions, gadgets, and playful contraptions that the gnomes have been working on throughout the year. Inventors of all ages gather in the town square, where each creation is presented for the community to admire. These range from useful tools to whimsical devices that serve no practical purpose but bring joy and amusement to onlookers.
Gears & Gadgets Contest: A friendly competition where gnomes pit their mechanical creations against each other. There are categories like "Most Ingenious," "Most Useless but Fun," and "Most Likely to Explode" (a fan favorite). Participants wind up their gadgets and set them loose in a race, with unpredictable results that are always met with laughter. The contest celebrates the gnomes’ love for tinkering, no matter the outcome.
Prank Parade: Gnomes are known for their love of harmless pranks, and during the Prank Parade, this love is put on full display. Playful mischief takes over the streets, with elaborate traps and tricks set up all over Ashborne. The parade encourages everyone to take part, with gnomes springing tricks on their neighbors—always in good fun. From magically disappearing hats to mechanical chickens chasing participants, the parade is full of surprises.
Whimsy Carnival: The central event of Whimsyfaire, the Whimsy Carnival is a daylong celebration filled with games, performances, and interactive exhibits. The streets are lined with booths where gnomes try their hands at feats of skill, luck, and cleverness. Jugglers, illusionists, and acrobats perform amidst the crowd, each act more playful and whimsical than the last. The carnival is a reminder that life is meant to be enjoyed, and even the smallest joys are worth celebrating.
Tinker’s Banquet: As night falls, the gnomes gather for the Tinker’s Banquet. Long tables are set up in the town square, and everyone shares a feast filled with strange and wonderful foods—often prepared with unique and unexpected methods. The food itself is a celebration of creativity, with dishes that glow, float, or transform upon eating, keeping everyone guessing what might happen next.
History
The gnomes have been the innoavtors of Astrium for centuries, with their long lifespans and big ideas of how to make the world a supposedly better place.
During the Pandora war, the gnomes provided the other races with magical items and artifacts that are still found in astrium today. After the events of realmshatter the gnome people moved into the ashen peak and savage grove to ensure that they have a play in both the continents.
Today they are apart of astriums council and ensure they are able to keep the magic items made during the pandora war in check .
