Ash elves prefer to stay in dark places to avoid strain on their eyes, they make incredible miners as they don't require nearly as much light in order to build mine shafts or dig in the earth.

Ash elves have incredibly sensitive eyes to light, spending many hundreds of years hiding in caves to avoid the other races of Astoris leaving them with an enhanced sight in the darkness.

Naming Traditions

Ash elves are traditionally named for the materials which matches the color of their eyes, as they spent much time underground they grew accustomed to working with the various metals and gemstones.

History

some tribes of early Astoris chased some elves fleeing the fey wild into deep caves which the y dared not enter, after a few hundred years these elves became the first ash elves with sooty ash colored skin in order to blend in with the caves they inhabited, having limited resources theses elves became incredible makers of crafts and ingenius ideas in order to survive the depths of the world. five hundred years passed before they emerged from the ground once more, having been contacted by their bretheren of land and sky elves around the world. the world they came to was much different than the one they had fled, while they were away the other elves which had not been chased away had traded technology with the young beings of Astoris as a trade for respite from the other planes.
