One of the most common myths of Astorian legend is that of the Serpent King, a deity who clawed his way out of a strange egg sac at the bottom of the Great Blue and went on to become King of the Battlemaster Empire. When he died, his spirit passed on to the next sucessor, so it's believed that whoever currently rules the Astorian throne has the soul of the Serpent King and thus assumes his name and status.
