The Browncloaks

The Browncloaks

A guild within Vironia.  Operating out of Acrinaleus, they offer services to many and are paid in part by a stipend from Vironia, though it is generally considered rude to not tip a browncloak that has done their service well and many jobs that are more dangerous will require a fee.  In part, they are hired to deal with abberations or other magical problems,  though sometimes a contract might require a browncloak protect someone or scout a particularly dangerous area.  So long as the contract does not break Vironian law, they will uphold their agreement to the best of their ability.

 

Generally, Browncloaks are recruited through Acrinaleus Academy, and those who were not recruited from there are likely to have distinguished themselves in some way or have a unique ability.  Most of the browncloaks that people are familiar with are those who can deal with dangerous threats, such as an awakened individual, someone with an awakened ancestor whose traits they inherited, or someone who has Aetherite laced  tattoos.  These, however, are not the full extent of the Browncloaks.  They are healers, philosophers, diplomats or engineers. Many diverse skills rest within the ranks of the Browncloaks.  

Structure

The Browncloaks are seperated into a very simple heirarchy.  The Archcloak leads the Browncloaks and is considered a noble rank, Highcloaks are those who have distinguished themselves or are otherwise more fit for leadership and their duties are to oversee chapters of the Browncloaks.  Though their decisions can be overruled by the Archcloak if disputed, Highcloaks are generally left to run their order how they see fit.  Browncloaks are the mercerenaries themselves, and every browncloak is considered equal, regardless of seniority.
