Bogcrea Gnomes

"Check this out: a canary for mineshafts! But clockwork with a dash of sulphur powder! It's just a prototype, but it would prevent sending others to be the proverbial canary."
— Last words of Prink Bellect

Having found themselves in another new world, many gnomes were dazed and confused with their new surroundings. A few groups of gnomes ventured onto heights and rocky areas, where they believed they would find better vantage and protection. Hills, cliffs, badlands, and mountains soon became their home, where they were offered sanctuary and protection by the dwarves that they encountered there. The dwarves saw value in gnome ingenuity and expertise, which paired perfectly with dwarven craftsmanship and skill. Over the years, the two races formed many joint or adjoining communities, in which the gnomes lent their hand to their dwarven allies, who started calling them Bogcrea - "Rock gnomes".

With their proximity, the dwarven influence spread further into gnomish culture, and soon the bogcrea became more and more akin to their dwaven allies, adopting many facets of their way of life, culture, and even religion. Their gnomish gods were soon replaced with the worship of Forgefather, and the bogcrea retold the dwarven myths to accommodate for the presence of gnomes. Bogcrea are tinkers and artificers without equal, and with the support of the dwarves are often at the forefront of technological progress. It is said that there is nothing they can't create when they put their minds to it - and many technological wonders around the world speak in their favor.

Basic Information

Ecology and Habitats

Bogcrea are usually found in elevated regions, most often hills and mountains, though rocky areas and badlands aren't uncommon either. They carve their homes into the rock and earth, and often build sprawling networks of tunnels to accommodate their communities.

Features

Darkvision. Accustomed to life in the gloom and darkness, Bogcrea have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. They can see in dim light within 60 feet of them as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. They can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Gnome Cunning. Bogcrea have advantage on all Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws against magic.
Artificer’s Lore. Whenever Bogcrea make an Intelligence (History) check related to magic items, alchemical objects, or technological devices, they can add twice their proficiency bonus, instead of any proficiency bonus they normally apply.
Tinker. Bogcrea have proficiency with artisan’s tools (tinker’s tools). Using those tools, they can spend 1 hour and 10 gp worth of materials to construct a Tiny clockwork device (AC 5, 1 hp). The device ceases to function after 24 hours (unless you spend 1 hour repairing it to keep the device functioning), or when they use their action to dismantle it; at that time, they can reclaim the materials used to create it. They can have up to three such devices active at a time.
When Bogcrea create a device, choose one of the following options:
Clockwork Toy. This toy is a clockwork animal, monster, or person, such as a frog, mouse, bird, dragon, or soldier. When placed on the ground, the toy moves 5 feet across the ground on each of Bogcrea's turns in a random direction. It makes noises as appropriate to the creature it represents.
Fire Starter. The device produces a miniature flame, which Bogcrea can use to light a candle, torch, or campfire. Using the device requires their action.
Music Box. When opened, this music box plays a single song at a moderate volume. The box stops playing when it reaches the song’s end or when it is closed.
