Archurnasz

"Aye, lad, this is it. The site where ole' Viktor Gharlbrand betrayed 'is family, 'is people, to become a twisted, sick version of 'imself. Don't know if I could 'ave stopped 'im were I 'ere, but I think about it ev'ry night." - Dravuin Charrslag to his apprentice, on a visit to the ruins of the once beautiful palace.
Settled atop Mount Faralor in the middle of the Nadhorod Basin, Archurnasz was the once sprawling capital of Eld Perelaia that was brought to ruin in an event that would come to be known as the Scattering. All that's left is the once proud castle, now sitting aged and decrepit among the ruins of the ancient city.   When the city was alive and prospering went by another name, one now lost to the ravages of the scattering and the passing of time. Archurnasz is now the name used for both the ruins and the castle itself, a word in High Perelish which means "cursed mouth". This is in reference to the numerous rows of broken columns that give off the semblance of a mouth full of crooked teeth, a grim smile for this place of darkness.

Architecture

Once graced by tall spires, long, thin bridges, and massive cathedrals supported by flying buttresses, the vast majority of the infrastructure that once made up the city is entirely destroyed. What were once beautiful rows of columns are now more akin to gnarled and broken teeth, a sad reminder of the beauty that once existed here. Roads that criss-crossed the landscape for miles are shattered like glass. The only structure that seems relatively stable is the ancient castle, home to the dreaded lich Gharlbrand..

History

For thousands of years, the city of Archurnasz was the beautiful capital of Eld Perelaia, an ancient human civilization that had reached from modern day Jirske all the way down to where Carcionne exists today. However, when the then king of Eld Perelaia Viktor Gharlbrand completed his ghastly ritual, the resulting magic-infused explosion completely obliterated most of the structures around him and his palace before his personal barriers could protect them.   The amount of force that was sent out destroyed and shoved back huge swaths of land, forming the Nadhorod Basin as we know it today. In the centuries since the Basin itself has bounced back to life, flourishing even.
