About 1020 settles came to the island that would later be named Hoydvann. However, the biggest problem that the settlers faced was the creature that inhabited the island, the Farlig. The Farlig was a creature that plagued the island for centuries, and it was a creature whose species were nearing extinction, but was deadly nonetheless. Farligs are deadly creatures that lurk in the shadows and only come out at nighttime. They are 8 feet tall and have an incredibly thin, humanoid build, teeth that can cut through steel, extremely dark skin, and white, glowing eyes that can hypnotize any person or beast that looks into them. They lurk in the shadows and never come into direct light, and they kill their prey by hypnotizing and luring them to their den, where the victim is presumably devoured. The settlers soon found out that the Farlig was the reason that no one had settled on the island before them and they suffered under it for 6 long months. One by one, settlers were killed and fear was struck into the hearts of every man, woman, and child. Eventually, this creature was defeated by one man that took the initiative to slay the beast, the great hero Doraleous. He, an elf, a dwarf, and 3 other men worked together to defeat the Farlig, but Doraleous was the one to kill the beast, so he and his associates were all hailed as heroes and their legend was passed down for generations.
