Web of Magic

The greatest secrets are always hidden, but for how long?

There are rumors, irrational but at the same time quite unsettling.
They call it Arcana's web, a delicate, invisible substance with otherworldly powers that stretches across the realms, twisting and bending between everything around us.
Just by pulling the strings a mere mortal could annihilate an army.

I heard that those born with an afflicted eye can see things that were meant to stay hidden.
I also heard that by ripping off both of their arms, they pose no threat...
Very few Ashardians nowadays understand the origin of spellcasting. Infinite strings assemble Arcana's web, a particular kind of matter which defies most laws of physics in the material plane.
It coexists in multiple dimensions at the same time, a claim that justifies why mortals can't perceive it by the use of their senses.
Commoners and normal people interact with the Web with every single movement without them realizing. The strict, specific hand gestures and touching techniques required for spells guarantee that the probability of an unintended spell casting is close to zero.
That leaves the question " Who understands and uses this, thing "

String Manipulators

The Afflicted

No son of the soil can own what he cannot touch or see, the cursed ones are a tragic exception. Not long after a thousand years ago, the world witnessed a rare but quite strange genetic feature in newborn humanoids. They came into this world with one of their eyes being transparent, completely lacking a pupil, an uncanny resemblance to an undershard's monstrosity.
The afflicted eye could see the Web. The afflicted eye showed to the rest of the world, what they were capable of.
Nowadays, whoever is born with the affliction is taken from their family and ends up armless, a chained slave that serves the government. Only a handful of them are lucky enough to become protectors or researchers of the web, known us Sorcerers. Parents who wanted to spare their children from a life of slavery, abandoned them in the woods. Most of them end up dead. Few of them become Druids.

Blind Practitioners

If you memorized the map, you can navigate through the darkest places without fear.
Generations upon generations of afflicted slaves were used for documenting the localization of the strings. Their odd and cryptic descriptions are captured on countless scrolls and books across Ashard. Few people dedicated their lives, studying tirelessly the work of the afflicted. The ones who managed to learn them by heart are known as Wizards. They are a rare sight due to the devastation that was caused by the afflicted when string knowledge was narrow. They stay hidden, sparing the common people from the dread and avoiding unwanted attention.

Another odd way of interacting with the strings is through music. It's a well-known phrase that Bardic music is magical. The truth behind that statement remains a secret, shared only among the talented ones.

Spells Known

Knowing a spell requires the caster to learn the exact localization of the strings he needs to touch in order to cast a specific spell. He must also use specific gestures required to touch the strings along with any additional components.

Spell level

Each spell regardless of premise affects the user's mind heavily upon casting. The mental intensity that engulfs casters who cast more complex spells, causes knot stretching. Spellcasters have separated spells into different levels based on these facts, in order to keep apprentices away from casting spells that would tear their knots.

Spell slots / Spell touches

In this world, excessive use of magic comes with the cost of insanity. Based on the individual's experience, Spell touches are the number of times a user can interact with the Web of Arcana before it starts to affect his Knot durability. In the case of casting when out of spell touches, player must roll a knot check - on a failed save he suffers 1d4 knot damage.

Cantrips

Cantrips are spells with limited capabilities that doesn't affect the knot.
