Ashard is a strange place where madness and logic are separated by a thin amount of muscle tissue known as The Knot among the common folk.
The sentient beings worship the Dragons, creatures who reached divinity and stood against Malevolent's awakening, protecting Ashard from an otherwise certain extinction during the year of the Deep Freeze.

Despite their influence in the world, the dragons abandoned Ashard since then. In the current era, most of the common people of Ashard, while the Empire and the Elves of Felshivaria are in command, suffer from poverty, reincarnation and torn Knots. Madness is the common trait of the current society and despite the clues, people are still unaware of the cause. Obnoxious abominations, disturbing beings that spread dread, Gods without knots or reason but instead born with malicious purpose, the Old Ones. Their influence leads the sentient life into extinction. Nyarlathotep, swarthy, slender, and sinister, dethroned the dragons and now torments mortals to his amusement.
