Sprites
Sprites, much like pixies in size, are often natural guardians; you might find water sprites splashing around near lakes or riverbeds, fire sprites near volcanoes (or in more recent times, hearths, where you can find them gleefully dancing on coals), earth and wood sprites out in the forests, playing with the wildlife and nuzzling against tree roots, or air sprites simply floating around in open fields or high places, etc. Most sprites can fit in the palm of your hand, and many have tried to domesticate them, but it simply never takes; sprites are born to be wild and free. Let them be, and let their peace and protection be appreciated. They’re usually more solitary creatures that group in the same places due to environmental factors, but it isn’t uncommon to see a nymph with a little string of sprites bouncing around behind them, following like ducklings. They’re nonverbal, but very expressive nonetheless.
