Fairies
come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, but when it comes to discussing your average, roughly human-sized fairy, we'll refer to them as fae (or faelings, for the non-adult fae). Fae are characterized as generally ambivalent, but capricious in nature; most non-fairies tend not to trust them due their very changeable behavior (their warring behaviors are often falsely attributed to the legend of an Angel and a Demon birthing the first of their species; this story is generally thought to be a myth, considering angels have not been seen in the continent of Asendra for at least a good several thousand years at the time of writing this) and their tendencies towards deceptive, destructive, and chaotic forms of magic; while it's true that fairies, with their delicate insect-like wings and mischievous smiles, can pose a great danger to you, you need only keep your wits about you to safely navigate an interaction with them. Having a fairy as an ally or as a neutral party in relation to you is far better (and far more likely) than having a fairy as an enemy... a fate I would not wish on even the worst of my enemies. You won't always know when you're interacting with a fairy, unless you keep a very sharp eye, or you use some type of magic to detect them (or you have cold iron on your person, though that method of distinguishing fairies from non-fairies is sure to get you plentiful amounts of fae enemies) but you may be able to tell what they are from hints of color in their sceleras, a dewy texture to their skin, an odd number of fingers or toes, 'tattoos' that move out of the corner of your eye, etc. They may even hover above the ground in front of you without you noticing. They're very clever with their magic, their enchanting and illusionary abilities so innate and strong that being in their presence can make you forget that, for your species, what they are doing isn't exactly normal. DO NOT ACCEPT FOOD OR DRINK OR ANY SORT OF GIFT FROM A FAIRY WITHOUT THOROUGHLY INSPECTING THE PROPERTIES OF SAID ITEM FIRST.
