Rampart class Carriers

Rampart class ship acting as a strategic mobile command platform and repair, refit, and refueling station for fleet operations. These ships serve as forward operating locations able to launch support wings of fighters, bombers, corvettes, and light frigates. Its size and capacity allows for the basing and docking capacity of Destroyer class ships externally and smaller class ships within its docking bays. Even with these capabilities the docking bays are quite limited with the number of larger ships it can house, with a total of four light frigates being able to dock at a time while still maintaining the standard compliment of fighters and bombers. These ships specialize in quick deployment of its compliment, able to scramble its assets within one minute of the order to launch.   The Rampart ships also have limited capacity to build munitions, construction vessels, fighters, and bombers, but these capabilities are rarely used in favor of the support ship or Vanguard ship performing that function. During construction of these objects, the carrier does not lose maneuverability in the same way that the Vanguard class ships do, however, they use an extreme amount of power to operate the construction bays. Boasting little in the way of defensive armaments, and even less offensive armaments, the carrier is dependent on other fleet ships and its own compliment to attack or defend.   Offensively, the Rampart Carrier has very few armaments, relying mostly on the ships attached to the fleet, the ships and fighters contained within it, and its defensive armaments to draw out attacks while the rest of the fleet engages whatever is attacking it. Even though it's armaments are lacking, it still has some offensive firepower in the form of ballistic weaponry. The main offensive capabilities from the carrier come in the form of strafing runs from the bombers attached to the ship.   Similarly, the defenses of the vessel are also lacking, as the carriers are built for rapid deployment. Class-B shields and flak cannons are its primary form of defense, and although the carrier does have armor its not as thick as some of the other similarly sized ships. The primary form of defense for the carrier comes in the form of fighter screens to intercept any small craft, missiles, or torpedoes from striking the ship in the first place.   Due to it's lack of arms and armaments, a carrier is rather fast for a ship of it's size. When unloaded, the ship can reach cruising speeds roughly twice as fast as the dreadnought class Vanguard ships. In addition, carriers also are equipped with a Tunnel Drive, but these are unable to envelope other ships in the near vicinity. Any ships docked within the carrier are taken as well when the Tunnel Drive is engaged.   There is a single main power core present on the ship providing power for all activities aboard the ship. There are two redundant secondary power cores present, but these are unable to fully power all aspects of the vessel in the case of primary core failure. These secondary cores are primarily used to continue to allow life support, docking, and launching capabilities leaving engine and production capabilities reduced or inoperative respectively.   The crew compliment of the Rampart carrier stands at roughly 1,000. This does not include any of the individuals for the ships that are docked with the carrier or the non-military support staff. In crisis situations, the carrier can house 10,000 individuals uncomfortably. The ships lack cryogenic bays and would be unable to maintain the massive power requirements that these bays require. Additional capacity is possible with a rotation of the ships docked within, but these measures require a certain amount of desperation to be present within the fleet as a whole.   Civilians are generally not found on carriers unless specifically associated with crew members assigned to the ships. Even in these cases, most civilians will remain on the colonial ships or the Vanguard class dreadnoughts. There are no leisure facilities aboard the carriers as these ships are designed to have more capacity than accommodations.   Rampart class carriers are a step below the dreadnought in size, but larger than Bastion class battleships. There are variations of Rampart class carriers that exist, most notably the command carrier which has less capacity in favor of better armaments and armor, but all fit under the purview of Rampart class carriers.
