Shrinepeak

While not an official religion or organisation, and certainly one of the newer cults to arise in the city, the Shrinepeak has become the most commonly visited holy site in The Carcernatorum - most likely due to it being the only holy site that exists there. Technically, it is three towers carved from the rock of a cliff-edge, with the third and final acting as a light-house for those brave enough to sail out on the Ocean Below. The second tower sits in the middle, connected to the largest via a stone bridge; while there is no visible bridge between the middle and final tower, it's assumed there is an entrance carved in through the rock underneath. No Shrinepriest has confirmed or denied this; most are sworn into an oath of silence.   Built upon doctrines of meditation and secrecy, every member of Carce can direct you to the first tower, as well as enter and worship within it -- but no-one can speak of what goes on within the last two. Despite it's secrecy, the first tower is an open space for silent reflection and prayer to unnamed gods. Some visit regularly hope to be chosen by the High Priests to learn more of what they can never speak of, but the majority visit the first tower to get away from the noise and danger of the streets.   Those who have gained access to the second tower are known as Shrinepriests. They are commonly found on the streets of Carce, convincing others to visit and join the peaceful commune that's said to be building within the Shrinepeak. The majority of Shrinepriests are also taught basic first aid and often offer their services to those who arrive within the halls - this has resulted in the first tower becoming an open hospital and hideaway all at once, and the Shrinepriests are the backbone providing the people of Carce with it. There are benefits to being a Shrinepriest, though all must undergo the Silencing - a powerful curse that, amongst other things, renders the recruit unable to speak about the things they witness within the walls of the Shrinepeak.   The third tower is restricted to the High Priests alone, and none speak of the rituals that occur there. It is rumoured that they all gather together to share thoughts without speaking a single word, to send and seek visions or to call upon their nameless gods to serve a higher purpose -- but no-one can say for certain. Those who do know have already undergone the Silencing, and so the Shrinepeak remains an open sanctuary and place of quiet respite.
