Volcanic Fanrabat (f-ah-n-rah-bat)

Basic Information

Anatomy

Fanrabats look like the classic bat - free hind legs, front ones joined to create huge wings and big eyes - in order to see as they CAN see in both light and dark as well as echolocate.  Unlike regular bats however they do have very long tails and the inside/bottom of their wings has a very distinct glowing look.
They use the tails to hunt as well as to climb around and test the ceilings of caves for cracks where they'd hook themselves to hang and sleep.
The glow on the bottom of the wings actually mimics cracks in the walls and volcanic stone through which magma can be seen. It would be almost as if a human's fingers glowed location-wise. The skin in that zone is very thin and the glow from within is their blood. It's extremely hot - just like the saliva of the bats which they use to "inject" in victims and cook them to almost-ashes  from the inside-out in the span of  half a minute.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Active volcanoes all over Forice with the biggest population living under & around Hellgate.

Average Intelligence

Despite the inhospitable habitat that the fanrabats live in, some (knights-to-be and ) dracoss scientists have visited and tried to learn more about this fascinating animal.
It has been discovered that they have long-term memory for hunting routes as well as finding their way back to their hideouts. Experiments done with a marked family of these bats, had trained the adult pair to recognize the faces of two scientists, come to them when they see them and tap their nose to the back of the hand to receive a rare treat and a pet on the head. The test was done once every few months and then they left them alone for three years. When they returned they were surprised to be tackled by the full-sized adults as well as their two young pups. This proved not only that fanrabats do remember faces and training but also that they can pass the knowledge of said training to their progeny.

DIET

The Fanrabats are obligate carnivores who'd go for anything smaller than them (including human/oid children). They do on occasion eat berries and the nuts of some trees that grow in volcanic zones, but this is very rare.
