The extra bit of control

The control over vampires and werewolves as the two best known supernatural "monsters of the night" did have its own phase on Terra however hilarious this might sound to anyone who hears this today. The so-called Vampire and Werewolf Hunters were running everywhere with silver - arrowed crossbows, sunlight-simulating flashlights and plenty of garlic.

That extra bit of control has been rendered unnecessary since 1730y Terran time. With the slow but steady understanding if what vampirism and lycanthropy are and what do the people suffering from them need, ways have been developed to cover all those needs and eliminate the chance of random attacks in the night and by this - keeping everyone safe and happy without the need of Vampire Hunters running around.

Today any vampire can go to the general cosmetics store and grab themselves SPF 500, good sunglasses and a blood cocktail from the fridge of their preference. And any werewolf can find "Flee Free" shampoo in their local store, "Moon Off" patches in the pharmacy and a fine choice of health-checked raw meat from either a butchery or again - general store. Today mixed families are possible without being written about in books and having movies with unnecessary flare and drama. And Hunters are a thing not forgotten but long gone in the days of old.

Purpose

When vampires and werewolves were still misunderstood, needing studying and infiltrating Rockdoors - and then the entire planet of Terra - Vampire and Werewolf hunting was seen as a big and important dangerous job that at first started to be attempted by members of the police with a higher status - like Captains. 

Somewhere around 1690 the approach of immediate aggression raised some eyebrows and questions especially with Lycanthropy being recognized at that time already as something possibly heal-able. After 1717 Vampirism started gaining its own peculiar ... following after a spectacularly controversial series of books came out that romanticized the connection between vampires and humans. At this point both types of Hunters gave up and decided they have nothing to do anymore as society's view had shifted from fearing these creatures to dreaming of them in disturbing teenage ways.

There are still some subspecies of vampires and werewolves that are not completely understood and the control over them is entrusted completely over the individuals themselves. An example for that is the mayor of Fogfalls Thorn Lockwood who is a shadow elf from a newly discovered world. His kind does have vampiric tendencies but he's only demonstrated most proper behavior and control since he'd been promoted to Mayor of the small town.
